Owning any vintage tractor can sometimes be a love-hate relationship. From the refurbishment costs to the occasional breakdown, the cost to keep these antique machines running can be extortionate. MF 165 massey ferguson tractors for sale are no different, and need a lot of love and care to keep them running. But like all vintage tractors, the more work you put in, the more work you will get out of the tractor. It's important to know how to do basic maintenance on these vehicles, which will prevent minor niggles becoming expensive problems later on, and keep your tractor running for years to come.

The MF 165 is a small 58-horsepower tractor which is suitable for the small to mid-range jobs on your farm, like mowing, tilling or levelling. MF 165 massey tractors, due to their age, have a reputation for burning oil, particularly when they are worked hard. To keep your 165 in top condition, you need to check and top up fluid levels from time to time as part of your maintenance routine.

The fluid levels on the 165 all use a similar process to check and replenish them. This is similar to most massey ferguson tractors for sale. Each fluid well contains a dipstick that allows you to easily measure the amount of fluid contained in the well, while letting you know how much fluid needs to be added before the levels are adequate. Each fluid is important for the life of your vehicle, so it's important to check these fluids from time to time.

Checking Fluid Levels

First, open the bonnet/hood of your Massey 165 and make sure it parked on level ground. Steady it in place so that you can check the fluid levels.

Next, decide which fluid level you want to check. There are wells and dipsticks for each fluid type. Some fluid types include hydraulic fluid, engine oil and transmission fluid. Bear in mind that to get the best reading, you should let the tractor cool down for a few hours so that all the oil has settled back into the engine block.

Find the dipstick which corresponds to the fluid you want to check. Each dipstick is clearly marked.

Remove the dipstick from the fluid well you wish to check. Use a rag or something similar to clean the dipstick so that you can get a clear reading.

Insert the dipstick back into the fluid well. Pull the dipstick out once again and measure the levels. The line you are looking for has the word "Fill" written across it. You should make sure that fluid at least meets this line.If the fluid level is beneath the line, you'll need to add more until it reaches this level.

Place the dipstick back into the fluid well. Repeat this process for whichever fluid you wish to check.
